Mission Statement, Goals and Vision
Mission Statement

Families of Kids with Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization that supports child and teen mental health by empowering West Central Florida families through increased community awareness and acceptance programs. We passionately strive to involve the whole community in education, care and support programs to reduce stigma and increase self-confidence so all youth may openly be accepted and understood for who they are.

Goals
  1. Whole Family Support - To provide opportunities for families to increase their understanding, to connect with others and to share support, in regards to child and teen mental health and care of the whole family.
Our plan includes a) using information gathered from local families, mental health professionals and other interested individuals, in order to offer monthly structured gatherings; and b) creating or offering information about opportunities for families to socialize or participate in advocacy.
  2. Education - To provide opportunities that increase awareness and understanding of mental illness to 1) families, 2) those who work with and care for children and teens and 3) peers.
Our Plan includes offering information, training and education opportunities that will allow increased understanding of how mental disabilities affect youth. Our belief is that more understanding will result in further inclusion of youth affected by these illnesses.
  3. Hospitalization - To provide support for times of hospitalization of children and teens by collaborating with hospitals and crisis stabilization units.
Our plan includes partnering with area hospitals that offer pediatric (under 18 years of age) crisis/mental health units to help families and communities better understand hospitalization and other services offered, and to eliminate the stigma associated with it. By providing supportive resources to families, youth, and the facilities, we will help increase feelings of positivity and confidence so that more youth may receive needed treatment.

Our vision
By focusing on child and teen mental health education and support through awareness and support programs, and by collaboration with local organizations, Families of Kids with Mood and Anxiety Disorders, Inc. will strive to reduce stigma often associated with mental illness, and increase self-confidence so all youth may receive the care and support they need, as well as be openly accepted and understood for who they are.
